The Mindbody Prescription
The Mindbody Prescription: Healing the Body, Healing the Pain by John E. Sarno
My thumb joints have been giving me a lot of problems. Dr. Sarno says we should ask our brain to send the sore area the blood and oxygen it needs to feel better. As nutty as it sounds I did. Call it mind over matter or what ever you want but after a week my thumbs felt better and I'm really happy they do not hurt none stop. So Dr. Sarno is okay by me, and this must help other people or the book would not be a best seller.
Here is an interesting link of people thanking Dr Sarno for helping them. It also has a link to a trailer for his film All the Rage: Saved by Sarno.
Be Here Now by Ram Dass
This was the first Yogi book I read. The only book that out sold Be Here Now in '71 was the bible. I have a number of Ram Dass books and his lectures cracks me up with some of his stories, but at the same time he can be very deep.
This book talks about Dr Richard Alpert, PhD transformation into Baba Ram Dass as he studied the importance of the spiritual side of human nature.
The links below are both have basically the same Ram Dass reading I just could not decide which was better. Both have kinda long music intros.

Autobiography of a Yogi
by Paramahansa Yogananda
This was the second Yogi book I read, because everyone said it was great. They were right.
“Millions of people never analyze themselves. Mentally they are mechanical products of the factory of their environment, preoccupied with breakfast, lunch, and dinner, working and sleeping, and going here and there to be entertained. They don’t know what or why they are seeking, nor why they never realize complete happiness and lasting satisfaction. By evading self-analysis, people go on being robots, conditioned by their environment. True self-analysis is the greatest art of progress.” ~ Paramahansa Yogananda
“Don’t depend on death to liberate you from your imperfections. You are exactly the same after death as you were before. Nothing changes; you only give up the body. If you are a thief or a liar or a cheater before death, you don’t become an angel merely by dying. If such were possible, then let us all go and jump in the ocean now and become angels at once! Whatever you have made of yourself thus far, so will you be hereafter. And when you reincarnate, you will bring that same nature with you. To change, you have to make the effort. This world is the place to do it.” ~ Paramahansa Yogananda

Chant and be Happy the Power of Mantra Meditation

If I would have know the whole book is right here.
The Bhagavad Gita
Called the Yoga Bible by us in the West our yoga reading group read the Eknath Easwaran version because it is Western friendly. It was nice taking turns reading it out loud in a group and then talking about it. It really does relate to life today.
If you don't have time to read it but you have 3 and a half minutes here you go.
